Embark on a journey through the roads of Bronius Jonušas's homeland - from the family home in Vadagiai, where he made music, to Ylakiai, where he is remembered. This 21-kilometer walking route invites you to get to know the composer known as the king of Lithuanian marches through the places, people, and stories that accompanied his life.
The road will lead through Pašilė, where Bronius Jonušas was born. Here you will stop at the memorial stone marking his birthplace and a wooden roof pole dedicated to the composer. Next, you will visit the Ylakaičiai Chapel, which commemorates his childhood, and at the Ylakaičiai Cemetery you will be able to pay tribute to the composer who has returned to his native land for eternal rest.
The Vindašiai homestead, whose history is intertwined with bookselling, music, and the lives of local intellectuals, awaits you on the route. You will end your journey at the Ylakiai Cultural Center - the Bronius Jonušas Museum is located here, and the nearby musical bench invites you to sit down and listen to the composer's works.
As you hike along paved sections, gravel roads, and forest paths, you will have time to explore the land where music originated. Allow about 6 hours for the journey, and more if you want to stay longer at the stops. We recommend making arrangements in advance for visits to the museum and the private Vindašiai homestead.
The route was prepared by the Skuodas District Tourism Information Center in 2026, the Year of Bronius Jonušas declared in the Skuodas District. It is dedicated to the centenary of the composer's march "Kur bakūže samanota" and the 50th anniversary of his death.
