From the event series "Words of the Wind" - "Piemares Kurši"

Art

Latvian folk songs are a source of spiritual strength. Sometimes undeservedly forgotten, but now respected. They encode the entire essence of man. Therefore, for the post-folklore group "Piemares Kurši" they are the starting point for their own musical art.

The group leader is Anita Elere. The instrumental accompaniment is created according to the content of the concert program, under the direction of Ainaras Pūpols.

The beginning of the band "Piemares Kurši" (founded as "Kuršu Sievas") is associated with a love of power songs, supplementing the vocal ensemble of teachers led by Anita Elerė with an instrumental group led by Ainars Pūpols, better known as a blues, rock guitarist, composer and performer. He collaborated with Jānis Grodus ("The Whiskey Band"), Ivo Fomin ("The Cucumbers"), Louis Fontaine ("Blues Engine") and Jūris Pavītolas, with whom he performed and worked in the studio. Several rock and blues albums have also been recorded. In 2007, together with the band "Pblues", the first original Latvian blues album was released. Since March 2020, "Piemares Kurši" ("Kuršu Sievas") has started concert activities at festivals and annual events in the South Kurzeme region and throughout Latvia. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the song "Dzērve" dedicated to Gruobinia was recorded, which became not only the first original composition of the group (music and lyrics by A. Pūpols), but also the unofficial anthem of Gruobinia, which is played at all festivals in this city. The group's activities at the Song Festivals, where it is well appreciated, should be especially emphasized.

On July 9, the post-folklore group "Piemares Kurši" will be a guest of the "Žodējo čiurlenimas" event series organized by the Skuodas District Municipality R. Granauskas Public Library for the fourth summer. The concert starts at 6 p.m. Don't miss this unique opportunity!..
