S. Daukantas' granary is located in Kalviai village, Lenkimys eldership, Skuodas district. Kalviai is the birthplace of S. Daukantas. In 1793, the famous historian, educator, and folklore collector Simonas Daukantas was born in this village. To this day, the only building that has survived from the former homestead of S. Daukantas' parents is the granary.
In 1981, the granary was reinforced with new walls and boasts a new reed roof. It houses the Simonas Daukantas Memorial Museum. The main room of the restored granary highlights the life, work, and preservation of the historian and writer. The other room houses ethnographic items. The granary, where S. Daukantas lived on vacation, is furnished according to the life and household of the peasants of that time. The other room is designated for the activities of his friend, the first Lithuanian botanist and peasant Jurgis Pabrėža. Teacher Stefa Anužienė was concerned with the immortalization of S. Daukantas and the establishment of the museum.
There is a memorial stone in the yard, with an inscription stating that the first historian to write and publish books in Lithuanian, Simonas Daukantas, was born in this homestead in 1793. A literary prize was established to commemorate Simonas Daukantas. Every two years, the S. Daukantas Prize is awarded for a work of fiction or a book on the theme of history.
