Roof pole for Bronius Jonušas in Pašilė – a symbol of memory of his native land
In Pašile, stop by the wooden roof pole dedicated to the memory of composer Bronis Jonušas. It was erected in 1999, the year of the musician's 100th birthday. The authors of the pole are P. Brazauskas and G. Škimelis.
This work recalls Pašilė's connection with a man whose music spread far beyond the borders of his native village. Born here, Bronius Jonušas became a composer, conductor of orchestras and choirs, and teacher. His name was especially famous for his marches, which are still played at concerts and festivals today.
The wooden memorial sign invites you to look at how the land remembers its people. Music is preserved by the musicians who perform it, life stories are preserved by memories and documents, and the roof pole inscribes the composer's name into the environment of Pašilė itself. It welcomes both those who are already familiar with the work of Bronius Jonušas and those for whom this journey is their first acquaintance.
Stop and examine the shapes of the tree and the details of the carving. This stop reminds us that a person's legacy lives on in their homeland, where their name is passed down from generation to generation.
