"BRONIUS JONUSHA'S MARCH" HIKE

Have you ever marched to the rhythm of a march? On September 26, we invite you to a special march dedicated to honoring Bronių Jonušas, a composer, conductor, and the king of Lithuanian marches who hails from our region.

2026 has been declared the Year of Bronius Jonušas in the Skuodas District. This year marks 100 years since he created the first Lithuanian march "Kur bakūže samanota" (Where the Moss is), and 50 years since the composer's death. To commemorate these important anniversaries, the Skuodas District Tourism Information Center is organizing a hike along the roads of Bronius Jonušas' birthplaces.

PARTICIPATION IS FREE, BUT PRIOR REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

GENERAL START OF THE TRIP

📍 10:00 a.m. – Vadagiai, Renavo St. 51, near the homestead of Bronius Jonušas' parents.

All participants of the march, regardless of the chosen route, will meet in Vadagiai. Here we will be met by a local orchestra, which will accompany us on our way to the rhythm of a march - as befits a tribute to the king of Lithuanian marches.

The organizers' bus will take you to the general start of the hike:
🚌 9:00 a.m. – departure from Skuodas;
🚌 9:30 a.m. – stop in Ylakiai;
🚌 10:00 a.m. – arrival in Vadagius and the general start of the hike.

ONE START – TWO CALL ROUTES
After a general musical start, hikers will choose one of two routes named after instruments.

"TREMBITA" – 21 KM
The trembita is one of the longest wind instruments, which is why we named the long hiking route after it.
At around 10:30 a.m., the most resilient hikers will set off on foot from Vadagiai towards Pašilė and Ylakiai. The hike is expected to end at 4:30 p.m. at the Ylakiai Cultural Center, where lunch will be served.

"TUBA" – 8 KM
A shorter, but no less exciting route is suitable for families and anyone who wants an easier hike.
After the orchestral accompaniment, at around 10:30 a.m., the participants of this route will be taken by bus to Pašilė and from there they will begin the hike to Ylakiai. The expected end of the hike is at 2:00 p.m. at the Ylakiai Cultural Center, where lunch will be waiting for the participants.

A ROAD WHERE PEOPLE AND HISTORY WILL WAIT

In Pašilė, hikers of the "Trembita" route will be met by the Pašilė community and the Ylakiai hunters' club, who will invite them to food education. Here we will also visit the monument dedicated to Bronius Jonušas.
From Pašilė, participants of both routes will travel the same route, just at different times. The road will lead to the Ylakaičiai Chapel, where Virginija Žitkuvienė will be waiting for the hikers, and later to the Ylakaičiai Cemetery, where our famous Bronius Jonušas rests.
We will also visit the Vindašiai homestead. Its owner, Algirdas Vindašius, will invite you to explore the museum established in the homestead and reveal another part of the life story of Bronius Jonušas.

We will end the hike at the Ylakiai Cultural Center. Here is a musical bench dedicated to Bronius Jonušas, which was installed this year, and which not only tells the story of the composer, but also allows you to listen to his works. At the cultural center, we will also visit the Bronius Jonušas Museum, and the hike will culminate with a shared lunch.

On the day of the event, local people, live storytelling, music, and refreshments will await hikers at each stop.

ROUTES THAT WILL SURVIVE

This hike will not end on September 26. Later, both routes will be available to be completed independently - using an online map, scanning QR codes at stops, and hearing the stories hidden within them.

In the registration form, select your route and indicate whether you will use the organizers' transportation to the start of the hike and whether you will need it after the event.

Which rhythm will you march to – the long "Trembita" or the shorter "Tūba"?
